FAQs
What specific cloud providers do you support?
Surveillance Bridge is a BYOC (Bring Your Own Cloud) solution. In addition to supporting all the main cloud providers, it will work with any S3-compatible object storage – whether public cloud or a private data center.
How easy is it to set up and configure Surveillance Bridge? Are there any prerequisites or specific technical knowledge required?
Setting up Surveillance Bridge is very easy and can typically be done in a few minutes. There is no disruption of service, so your VMS continues to record. We also offer remote professional services to assist with a site survey and deployment. In this case, we would schedule a call to discuss your specific requirements and goals and to define the policies that will be applied.
How does Surveillance Bridge handle data security and encryption?
We have over twenty years of experience in big data management with no security breaches. We work with a variety of institutions worldwide and follow industry standards and best practices with high levels of certification. Surveillance Bridge runs on your servers and acts as a data mover between on-premises storage and cloud accounts, inheriting security benefits from Windows file system and encrypting data in transit and at rest.
What kind of performance and reliability can be expected when using Surveillance Bridge with a particular VMS and cloud provider?
VMS solutions vary in their file generation methods, making it challenging to find a cloud-enabling solution that fits all needs. However, Surveillance Bridge's unique optimization feature allows it to adapt to the specific file generation and chunk-reading preferences of your VMS. This sets it apart from other cloud-enabling solutions, providing optimal performance and flexibility tailored to your VMS.
How does Surveillance Bridge impact the performance of my existing VMS hardware?
Surveillance Bridge is designed to have a minimal impact on the system resources of your existing VMS, and its stealth installation procedure does not cause any disruptions that could result in missed frames. Performance of the storage is not affected in any way and the software only utilizes 5-10% of CPU usage, primarily for encrypting data that is sent to the cloud. Furthermore, special optimizations can be implemented when running inside VMs to prevent it from competing for valuable resources when critical operations are in progress.
How flexible are the retention policies and storage options for cloud storage? Can they be easily customized to meet specific needs?
With Surveillance Bridge, you have the flexibility to choose the amount of recordings you want to keep locally and the amount you want to send to the cloud. You can also decide whether to replicate recordings that are kept locally for Disaster Recovery or not.
What is the recommended minimum amount of local storage needed to use Surveillance Bridge effectively?
The minimum amount of required local storage depends on multiple factors, including the duration of the internet outage you need to guard against, the file size of individual recordings, the number of cameras, and internet upload speed. As a general recommendation, we suggest having 2-3 days of local storage.
How does Surveillance Bridge ensure business continuity in case of a disaster or failure of the recording server?
Even in the event of a disaster, cloud content can be quickly made accessible to new storage or VMS within minutes without the need for any data download. To do this, simply replace the drive, direct Surveillance Bridge to the cloud, and perform a quick Disaster Recovery light operation. The file system (metadata only) can be accessed immediately.
How does Surveillance Bridge handle recording and storage in case of an internet outage or temporary loss of connectivity?
In the event of an internet outage, the VMS continues to write to the local storage. Outage can last for as long as there is free space on the local drive. This is why it is good practice to keep 2-3 days of free space. Once the internet is restored, Surveillance Bridge resumes where it left off, ensuring that no data is lost.
Can Surveillance Bridge send notifications or alerts in case of events such as storage capacity reaching a threshold or a recording failure?
Users can opt in to receive email alerts and notifications on our licensing server. If the recording server fails to communicate with the licensing server for an extended period, an alert will be sent. Similarly, if the account exceeds a pre-defined threshold, a notification will be sent.
What kind of pricing structure is in place for Surveillance Bridge, and how does it compare to other solutions on the market?
Pricing for Surveillance Bridge depends on either the monthly amount of camera data generated or the number of camera sensors, depending on the VMS being used.
What happens if the software license expires or is exceeded? Will the system continue to function, or will it stop recording? Are there any grace periods or alerts provided in such cases?
We consider all of our customers' operations to be mission-critical; therefore, our software operates under a "fair usage" policy. This means that even if the license is exceeded due to the addition of new cameras or if payment for renewal is delayed, there will be no interruption of service, unless there is gross abuse of the policy.
